NJCCIC Data Breach Notification

US burger chain Five Guys disclosed a data breach impacting job applicants. The cybersecurity incident discovered on September 17 resulted in unauthorized access to files and was blocked the same day. On December 8, Five Guys discovered that an unauthorized actor accessed the sensitive information of an unknown number of past applicants, and the franchise began notifying impacted individuals on December 29. Exposed information includes various PII such as names, Social Security numbers, and driver’s license numbers. Five Guys has more than 1,700 locations, with at least 20 located in New Jersey, and employs over 5,000 individuals, according to Turke & Strauss LLP, a data breach law firm investigating the incident.
